JOB DESIGN
Working with employers and
employees to explore and open up new opportunities for retaining
employment and developing new employment within (usually) large
organisations. Some of the techniques used here, such as niche
carving, can also be applied to people seeking to start or develop
their own businesses. Other techniques, such as trading strengths
and weaknesses can only work in a team setting.
The process of job design looks at the abilities of the individual
employee, seeking to develop a package of work tasks and activities
which best match those abilities. The impact of disability is
thus minimized, so that support required to meet disability needs is
less intrusive. Thus the individual employee is better placed to
work more independently and more effectively. This can be good
for the individual, for the employer and for work colleagues.
