VISE PROJECT
SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES RUN BY PEOPLE
WHO ARE VISION IMPAIRED
Originally funded jointly by UnLtd, the Millennium Awards
Scheme, and
my own
business, this project aims to provide support to people who are
vision
impaired and are running their own small businesses. Its
particular objective is to help these people to move their
businesses
into conventional viability.
The VISE service offers such businesses support, mentoring and
business
advise, all delivered in the context of their disability and
their
individual circumstances. The prime means of contact is
via
telephone and email, although face to face meetings may be
provided in
certain cases. This service thus offers to people who are
vision
impaired and who choose self-employment something very close to
the
supported employment model used extensively in conventional
employment.
Although any and all aspects of running a small business may be
addressed, some of the more likely ones are:
- applying for Access to Work
- appropriateness of selling particular
products or
services
- being realistic
- building flexibility
- minimizing the need for external funding
- maximizing the effectiveness of local
support
All support which is provided through the VISE
project
is
absolutely free to the vision impaired person. Whilst this
support may sometimes lead to a need for some chargeable
support, no
charge will be incurred without prior notification;
sources of
funding may be available to cover any such charges.
If you are interested in taking advantage of the VISE support
service,
please contact me by telephone or email.
Please note that the VISE project is finished, but that all
services which were provided through VISE are now available
through the UKSEABLE project. Please click here to find out
more about UKSEABLE.
